"Dress Like a Fashionista" with Iris & Daniel

Iris & Daniel and two fashionistas with a very unique and eclectic style and they so happen to be best friends who created the blog "We have no style". I recently had the chance to interview the both of them and I enjoyed it. Make sure to check out their interview below!!!

Meet Iris & Daniel
We’re Iris and Daniel and we’re both seventeen years old on our way into our senior year of high school. We met in fourth grade and have been best friends ever since.

Describe your personal style
Daniel: My style is a reflection of runway style and theatrical dressing mixed with my love for classics. I love androgyny and modern styles.

Iris: My personal style is girly and modest. It’s fun and proper with a quirky twist of grandma, fashionable, and vintage styles.

Growing up, were you always into fashion & beauty? Also, describe your personal style over the years and how have they changed.
Daniel: I’ve always been interested in fashion but at a very surface level, but only got very interested it in 2008. I started looking at runway shows and paying attention to trend reports on sites like Style.com and have never looked back since. My personal style was always different from others, I used to follow styles of my peers much more in the past but in a way that was unique to myself. My style has changed from then to now by becoming much more fashion forward, and a bit more black can never hurt anyone, right?

Iris: Before becoming interested in fashion in the past few years, I never put any importance on it. I use to refuse to wearing dresses and skirts, now its all I wear. I rarely wear pants because they don't feel right on me. I don't know what influenced me, but my style is much girlier now than before.

For college fashionistas on a budget, what are some tips and advice that you would suggest?
Daniel: My biggest piece of advice for those who want to have style on a budget is go directly to the sale section in a store before perusing the other areas. Even in affordable stores like H&M and Forever 21, I usually won’t buy anything at regular price.

Iris: Usually before I go shopping I make a list of clothes I need or want badly. By doing this it helps because it you can avoid buying stuff you don't need when you see a big sale.

What are your fashionista five must haves?

Daniel: 1.) Black blazer that fits you well, goes perfect with everything

2.) Breton striped shirt, classic and chic

3.) Black boots.. platform shoes especially

4.) Good fitting black bottoms (can be a skirt, shorts, or trousers depending in the person)

5.) Anything red

Iris: 1.) Tights because I pretty much wear that under all my dresses and skirts everyday.

2.) A lace dress, I only have one right now, but I want more.

3.) Lipstick

4.) A boater hat

5.) A good coat.

What types of stores do you typically shop at?
Daniel: My favorite stores are H&M and Forever 21, affordable fashion is THE way to go when you are a young student. It’s unreasonable to think that a lot of money is needed to have good style, it simply is not true at all. Good styling is the key to looking great.

Iris: I normally shop at Forever 21 and thrift stores, but when I get the chance to shop at other places I try to find clothes I like there. I think its good to have an open mind when it comes to shopping because you can discover new places you'll end up loving.

Who is your fashionista icon and why?
Daniel: I am inspired by designers runway shows at Givenchy and Gareth Pugh to take a slightly dramatic way of dressing. I love the style of Pelayo of Kate Loves Me because I think he is a master of taking fashion and making it personal and masculine even if it isn’t. I also thing model Sasha Pivovarova’s style is impeccable and such an inspiration to see how to use the same pieces over and over in different ways.

Iris: Just like everyone else one of my fashion icon is Alexa Chung. I like that she is never either too girly or tomboyish. I also admire Abbey Lee Kershaw's style because from all the photos I've seen from her is unique from most models. I love her use of texture and layering that no one else would think of.

What are some makeup tips that you would suggest to college fashionistas?
Daniel: I don’t wear makeup so I have no tips, sorry!

Iris: I don't really wear makeup, but lipstick. So, a bold statement lip works any time of day for me.

If you could be a stylist for a day for a celebrity, which celeb would that be and why?
Iris: If I was a stylist I wouldn't want to style celebrities. I would rather dress up actual models for editorials because when it comes to styling celebrities they tend to be boring and uncreative. My ideal model to style for an editorial would be Sasha Pivovarova, she's my favorite model.

Daniel: If I could be a stylist for a celebrity I think I would choose Lady Gaga just because she is so into her fashion that it would be fun to collaborate and have the creative freedom to do anything. I also think it would be fun to style the Jonas Brothers, as uncool as that sounds… the teeny bopper in me thinks it would be pretty amazing.

Anything else that you would like to add or suggest?

Be adventurous with fashion and don't be afraid to do what you want, a bold statement trumps the average any day.
